Made this for my wonderful (and beautyfull) roommate for her birthday! It was inspired by another DIY project we liked in downtown McKinney. Happy thirty-something, Jessica—I’ll be joining the thirties club shortly!

This is how I decide to spend my time when I have multiple papers due. The cake in the back is actually from my roommate. What you cannot tell from this picture is that there are multiple cake pop flavors. If I ever denied being a procrastinator before, I think this settles it.

To love is to be more committed to the other than we are to the relationship, to be more concerned about his walk with God than the comfort or benefits of his walk with us.

Best mail day ever! My two adorable nephews (and sister) sent me a “Get well soon” and the handsome boyfriend has ransacked the “Operation write home” shelf. Well done, boys.

This showed up on my doorstep this morning, direct from Afghanistan via Plano. What a happy start to the day!

Reminder in the refrain

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

—Edward Mote (1797-1874)

Me: sinking sand
You: quicksand
Jesus the Christ: solid rock for me and you

Missing my favorite flying Dutchman like crazy. He’s depicted here as a cookie in a green flight suit. He is much taller in person.

My roommate’s dog tries to be human sometimes. She could at least cross her legs.

After!
Surgery to remove an extra bit in my foot went well. Post-surgery, things are great: no swelling and not much pain- which was surprising since they gave me enough analgesics to tranquilize an South African Elephant- and off work for a week and some change. Today I have already taken 1.5 naps, eaten 8 slabs of graham crackers, drank juice from the juicer, and begun a book.
And it’s pretty great to have my mom out here to help me get on my crutches, make me food, and give me my meds. (Currently she’s renting Moneyball for us at redbox since i cant drive for 10 days.) You’re the best, mom!

…scratch what I said about the pain! it’s hurting a lot more on day three! Bring on those pain killers.
